Following Tuesday’s vandal invasion of KETRACO owned Kegati 132/33kV sub-station in Kisii
County, we are glad to report that we have managed to energize KETRACO’s transformer TX1
and loaded four outgoing 33kV feeder lines to serve customers.
Consequently, power supply in Kisii town, Kiamakoma, Kilgoris and Kisii East town has
successfully been restored. All customers were back on supply by close of business yesterday7
th May 2024.

Kegati sub-station has a total of eight feeders. Three feeders- Keroka, Migori and Ikonge have
been back fed from the other stations and will be normalized today after energizing
transformer 2 TX2. The other feeder-Homabay is fed from Ndhiwa.
KETRACO and Kenya Power engineers are working towards laying and termination of
Homabay feeder cables which were vandalized and repairing and restoring transmission
transformer 2 which belong to Kenya Power. Additionally, recommissioning of the capacitor
bank will equally commence today.

KETRACO wishes to caution members of the public on the adverse effects of vandalism as it
is punishable by law under the Energy Act 2019. If found involved in the mentioned criminal
activities under the Act, one would be liable to a fine of not less than KES. 5 million. The person
may also face a term of imprisonment of ten years or both.
